FIVE SHOE-BUYING TIPS FOR CHILDREN:

  1. When you take your child shoe shopping....It’s important to have BOTH of your child’s feet measured before buying shoes. Every shoe will fit differently. Letting a child participate in the shoe-buying process promotes healthy foot habits down the road.
  2. Shop for shoes later in the day. Feet tend to swell during the day; it’s best to be fitted when they are larger.
  3. Shoes do not need a "break-in" period. Shoes should be comfortable immediately. If they are not, do not buy them.
  4. Always buy for the larger foot. Feet are seldom precisely the same size.
  5. Have your child try on shoes with the socks or tights that they will be typically wearing with those shoes.

As we go through our day to day routine, it is often difficult to see through all the mess to try to focus on the good things.  We need to remember to be thankful for our freedom, our health, our families, our friends, our homes, and our jobs just to name a few.  In the blink of an eye one or ALL of these things can be taken away.  On this Thanksgiving Day, pause to count...and be thankful for your many blessings.  And although it may not always seem so, you have more blessings than you may realize.  Happy Thanksgiving from Keystone Podiatric Medical Associates.

We would like commemorate the founding of the Marine Corps 238 years ago today, November 10, 2013.

We also would like to honor all our Veterans tomorrow and every day.  They have given so much for each one of us in many different theaters of war to protect our freedom here at home!  We at Keystone Podiatric Medical Associates are eternally grateful for the supreme sacrifice that so many veterans have made to allow us all to enjoy our way of life in what is still the greatest country in the world!

Thank a veteran today, tomorrow and everyday!

Foot pain is on the rise, according to a recent American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) survey.  42% said their feet hurt occasionally and 6% said that they hurt all the time.  And 41% of respondents believed that it was normal for their feet to hurt sometimes.  Foot pain is not something you have to live with. In fact, many foot problems are preventable and almost all are completely treatable.

Foot pain can have many causes.  It can be the result of the shoes you wear, where you work, how you walk, your exercise routine, foot deformities, and even undetected diabetes, poor circulation, or arthritis.

An estimated 75% of Americans will experience foot problems during their lifetime and only 16% will see a Podiatrist.  The fact is that we are a more active society and we are on our feet more than ever before and should not be surprised by these statistics.

Although a physically active lifestyle is an important part of keeping YOU healthy,  don’t neglect the minor aches and pains that could sideline you for the long haul.  Your Podiatrist can identify problems or make suggestions to keep you moving and prevent injury.  Enlist the help of your Podiatrist to help keep you moving pain-free.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month.  So what does this have to do with feet???    Well…..most of you reading this probably have a pair of feet….and...fall into at least one of two groups of people.  You either have breasts or your loved ones have them.   And no matter which group you fall into, you need to help ensure that your or your loved ones regularly perform self-examinations and go for yearly mammograms.  By doing your part for Breast Cancer awareness month, you are helping to protect the feet of the people you love!
